There is a lot to be said about Not goodby Danni Sanders, played by Zoey Deutch. But one thing is certain, and that is that the “unlikable female protagonist” is also very stylish.

The new Hulu film follows Deutch’s character as she navigates the pits of “an aspiring writer with no purpose, no friends, no romantic prospects and, even worse, no followers,” as stated in the film’s synopsis. After feeling left out of the spotlight, she struggles to have any social media clout, by any means necessary, and decides to fake a trip to Paris. After a series of unexpected events, Danni quickly rises to hero status as an influencer and advocate. But it’s only a matter of time before his web of lies finally comes to light – and let’s just say it does. not end well for her.

The eventually canceled influencer is a carbon copy of the biggest fashion trends on the internet, drawing mostly inspiration from everything from the early 2000s. Mini butterfly clips adorn her two-tone hair, while she wears crop tops, skimpy mini dresses and matching sets paired with a vibrant Wildflower phone case.

The real fashion star of Danni’s outfits is her kitsch jewelry, which inspired a collaboration collection by BonBonWhims exclusively for the film. Throughout the nearly two-hour film, she can be seen sporting similar pieces to the indie brand’s whimsical and nostalgic designs, like chunky stacks of resin rings, colorful bead necklaces, and DIY-inspired bracelets.

Ahead, BonBonWhims designer Clare Ngai spoke with NYLON about the jewelry inspiration behind her collaboration with Not goodDanni’s fashion looks in the movie, and more.

How the collaboration for the film was born Not good?

Searchlight Pictures contacted us to curate an exclusive jewelry collection for the film, and after researching the story, we immediately jumped at the chance. It’s a dark comedy and satire on influencer culture and Y2K trends, so it’s a perfect match!

What was your biggest lesson from the film?

We were so lucky to get a glimpse of the film before anyone else and, of course, we attended the premiere and got to see it again on the big screen. We absolutely loved it. It’s witty and full of humor, but it also has depth and sometimes emotion. I think the bottom line is that everyone can feel a little lonely at times, no matter who they are, and have that desire to fit in, especially with the pressures of following social media in today’s world. today. This is painfully relatable for many of us in many ways.

What was your inspiration behind the designs?

Since the film and styling are so heavily influenced by Y2K trends, we made sure to include materials and designs that reflect accordingly, including a nostalgic resin ring with capsule-packed keychain of vintage gum, as well as hand-beaded stretchy necklaces and bracelets. who to spell Not good. The Searchlight team was super open and collaborative and gave us so much creative freedom to create this collection.

What is your favorite piece and how would you wear it?

The blue heart resin ring which is inspired by the ring Zoey Deutch’s character Danni wears throughout the movie is our favorite! It’s simple yet whimsical at the same time; you can stack it or wear it alone. It also comes with a kawaii keychain and is packaged in a chewing gum capsule that reminds me of my childhood.
