Ilene Joy is teaming up with Elizabeth Sulcer for her next collection.
The celebrity jeweler and stylist, respectively, are collaborating on a holiday jewelry collection, which is Joy’s eponymous label’s second collection since its launch in 2019. The collection includes 16 pieces of earrings and rings.
“I have a very specific kind of vibe that I love and Elizabeth is so ridiculously on the spot,” Joy said of the collaboration. “It has the edge, the elegance and the bold, authoritative undertone of what my brand stands for.”
This thought was echoed by Joy’s daughter and business partner Rae Scheer, who said, “We wanted to work with someone who was on the lookout. We wanted to marry this element of fashion with fine jewelry and we really wanted to work with someone who identifies with our style, but who is also tuned in to new trends.
To create the collection, Sulcer and Joy spoke at length about their jewelry preferences and sources of inspiration, such as architectural lines and natural elements. The two women discovered their mutual fondness for signet rings – Joy had long wanted to create a collection inspired by her grandfather’s signet ring – and chose to focus on the style of the collection.
“I was really inspired by the chic glamor of the 1970s,” explained Sulcer, who styled Gigi Hadid, Elsa Hosk, Adriana Lima and others. “The kind of mystery of Studio 54 and those glory days of style. I was really obsessed with the beauty of this golden age and wanted to combine it with strong, powerful and architectural lines in jewelry.
The pieces in the collection are all in 18k yellow and white gold and feature precious and semi-precious stones like diamonds, white sapphires, green tourmaline and aquamarine. Joy was inspired by her recent move to Los Angeles and the city’s natural elements, which influenced the collection’s color palette.
“I stayed away from major jewelry tones, like rubies, emeralds, and deep sapphires, which I normally use,” Joy said. “I used a lighter, looser color that is a bit more soothing and even.”
While Joy and Sulcer both have many collection favorites, they both highlighted the flap ring, which is designed with two stones that can be flipped to display either side. Customers can customize the stones by choosing between green tourmaline, aquamarine or white sapphire.
“It’s kind of a two-in-one, which is really cool because you get to enjoy it a lot more,” Sulcer said. “You can decide which way you want to wear it. It’s a cool novelty for fine jewelry.
Other notable pieces include mismatched earrings, dangling earrings, charm earrings, and signet rings.
The Ilene Joy x Elizabeth Sulcer jewelry collection is available on the Ilene Joy and Broken English Jewelry websites and on the brand’s pop-up at the Faena Hotel during Art Basel Miami on December 1-2. The price of the collection ranges from $ 1,900 to $ 9,850.
