Hatton Labs, the east London-based jewelry brand of Jack Cannon and Joe Gelb, has come on leaps and bounds since it was first spotlighted by Hypebeast in 2019, and now it’s coming back for more. fall/winter 2022 with the “La Croisette” collection. Inspired by Cannes, the new collection looks at a specific area called La Croisette, home of the Cannes Film Festival, which became the hotspot for the third-biggest jewelry heist of all time in 2013. According to the story, the Jewels belonging to Israeli billionaire Lev Avnerovich were on display at the Carlton Hotel, showcasing 72 of the world’s finest jewels – and they were stolen. It was also the setting for Alfred Hitchcock To catch a thiefcreated 58 years before the Carlton Hotel robbery.
As a result, Hatton Labs created its FW22 collection centered around stones inspired by the 72s that were exposed and then stolen, each presented in a more contemporary cut and silhouette. For example, a rainbow of jewels can be found in Hatton Labs’ XL Anchor Bracelet, with links crossing throughout the piece for a combination of new and old tastes (something Hatton Labs has championed since the beginning thanks to collaborations with Playboy and previous collections).
References from the hotel also feature in this collection, including the production of a lock and key as a pair of earrings, French poodle earrings (and others that represent the ‘animal), doormen’s hats dangling from necklaces, replica 55-carat diamonds set in a faux bible jewelry box, and more. The opulence continues with a safe pendant filled with miniature gold bars, Monopoly-tax cards and Daniel Arsham type luxury cars that are apparently weathered with the inclusion of clear stones.
The FW22 range is completed by the return of beaded pieces from Hatton Labs – something it has been pushing into menswear since 2020. Everything has been designed by the London-based duo and made in Italy by artisans who make jewelry for Chanel, Balenciaga, Gucci, Fendi, Alexander McQueen, Tiffany & Co. and Lanvin.
