Dior is known for its ultra feminine jewelry inspired by nature, the sky and love. Its latest collection, Gem Dior, presents a new architectural style that combines natural elements with the history of the couture of the house. Each piece features stacked and staggered links of varying sizes and heights, giving them a unique and multidimensional look.
The inspiration behind this design comes from the way Mr. Dior pinned fabric samples from his haute couture collections to pieces of paper, as well as the natural and organic shape of the gemstones and rough minerals. Victoire de Castellane, artistic director of Dior Joaillerie declares: “The spirit of this collection is modern, it is a style that I would qualify as abstract-organic, an organized break that has turned out to be a real technical challenge for our customers. workshops.
Several monochrome pieces in 18K white, yellow or pink gold with diamond links reveal the asymmetrical shape. Others are adorned with very different gemstones and minerals that create a kaleidoscope of color. There is also a cuff bracelet and a watch both fully set with diamonds, for a dose of pure glamor.
The name, Gem Dior, is a pronunciation play on the French words “J’aime”, which means “J’aime” and sounds like “gem”. And there’s a lot to like – the use of minerals and decorative stones is striking. Highlights include a blue and green theme in jewelry and a vivid multi-colored watch with a malachite green dial. The cuff and the ring are in 18K yellow gold mixed with links of diamond, lapis lazuli, malachite and chrysoprase for a harmonious and elegant composition. The watch is more daring. It alternates 18k yellow gold and diamonds with blue lapis lazuli, dark red carnelian, brown tiger eye, vivid turquoise and pink mother of pearl. Each of the seven watch faces also features a gemstone or mineral, including white mother-of-pearl, onyx, lapis lazuli, or malachite.
Dior has given a new twist to traditional watch cases by focusing on the organic and natural shape of gemstones – the irregular octagonal shape of the case is inspired by a slice of raw tourmaline. The bezel is set with diamonds, and some have gold or onyx inserts at the top of the case and the fully hinged bracelet is designed as an open cuff rather than a clasp. It wraps around the wrist and ends with a diamond-set insert at the top of the case, which leaves a shine of skin exposed. It could even be worn as a bracelet if you wore it with the dial positioned on the inside of the wrist. The watch bands have the same link design as the jewelry but include a steel model and a two-tone bracelet that alternates 18k yellow gold and steel. Each also comes with a black alligator leather strap topped with a diamond insert at the end.
The Gem Dior collection is priced from $ 4,900 to $ 105,000 and is available on dior.com
